I think it all started the day my mother sent me off to Kindegarten with a small note, neatly folded, and pinned to my shirt. The outside read: "Dear Mrs. Mackey." The inside read: "Chantal dressed herself today". At the time I thought it was a fabulous combination of 70's plaid and florals and was so determined to wear it to school that my mother really had no choice. All I really remember is a lot of color. My mother remembers every detail.
This same mother continued to support this free expression with many, many shopping trips throughout my childhood, teens, college years and beyond. I thank her for this because without her I wouldn't have such a love for fashion.
It's also because of her that I wanted to start my own store that reflected all I had learned over the years of shopping.
Shopchantal.com started in February 2006, shortly after the opening of the brick and mortar store, chantal. in Portland Maine. We ( I say "we" because shopchantal.com is completed by a beautiful, talented staff) work incredibly hard to buy pieces that we feel are fashion forward yet, totally wearable in many different ways, more than once. The challenge of being based in Maine is our climate. We try not to let this restrict our choices for the store or the site and love to buy from pieces from our designers' collections that offer our customers completed looks that are not restricted.

Our mission continues to evolve, but has always centered around providing fantastic customer service, whether it be in the store or online. We also want to be able to offer the newest, freshest looks from the hottest designers.
